Unlimited use of cars may cause many problems. What are
those?
Should be discourage people to use cars to solve those
problems?
Give reasons and examples.
‘Excess
of everything is bad’, is a cliché that embodies the essence of this subject.
I do endorse the view that curtailing
excessive use of cars, or for that matter, any vehicle is the need of the hour. Let’s dive a little deeper to
understand this subject.
First, let us explore the reasons behind the exponential rise in use of cars.
Well, the most obvious one is convenience. The second reason is status. A swanky car is taken as a
symbol of success. The last reason probably is safety. In a metro location,
where pollution and traffic have seen unprecedented heights, a car provides a
safe and comfortable means to commute. Not to forget, the drop in cost, and easy
schemes introduced by banks and car-manufacturers have made it easier to buy
one. No wonder, even college students
like to flaunt their new four-wheeled diesel-guzzling monsters.
So, what is the problem? Well, statistics reveal a gloomy
picture of how excessive use of cars has catapulted our world to global warming and
pollution. Not to forget, the problems of road accidents and traffic jams
caused by unbridled use of
cars. Last but not the least, travelling by car is the criminal waste of
money, especially when equally comfortable alternatives such as metro and AC
buses are available.
Well, I am not for total ban on cars, but I do advocate its sagacious and judicious use.
Why not do car-pooling while going to– office or college? Better, why not find
innovative ways of working from home itself? Isn’t it time we limit travelling
itself. Well, there are certain occupations such as marketing or field jobs,
where travelling is
indispensable, but how about others such as software development or
administrative work? With
the advent of Skype and Google hangout cant we do meetings from our
drawing-rooms?
The
bottom-line is limiting the use of cars or for that matter limiting
travelling in general is the need of the hour to reverse the trend of pollution
and global-warming. This is the least we can do to save the environment and to
ensure a better future for our progeny.
